Based on the practice of refractory application and problems found in the processes of steel making of Ansteel, Panzhihua steel and other steel plants, smelting separation electric arch furnace of Panzhihua steel plant and other five kinds of typical refining ladle slag from Angang steel plant, etc are selected as research subjects. All chemical compositions of the slag samples were analysed by XRF which was manufactured by an American company Thermo Fisher,and their phases compositions were detected by XRD which was from Panlycal. Not only observe the dynamic change of slag under 1000℃ until totally smelted and bent but also the influence of different additives over the high temperature behavior of five kinds of refining slag by NHD-03 P auto imaging refractoriness testing furnace.Analyze the high temperature viscosity, micorstructure and phase change of smelting furnace slag. Select four kinds of refractories with different carbon content for static anti-slag test to determine the appropriate refractories for smelting furnace lining.Due to the influence of additives over high temperature behavior of refining furnace slag, add different additives to Magnesia carbon bricks for anti-slag tests by static anti-slag method, and then we will get a reasonable solution on additives of Magnesia carbon brick for five kinds of refining furnace slag.Three main findings were obtained in these research works:1. The major phase of smelting furnace is Fe2Ti2O5 and MgTi2O5, while the generated Gibbs free energy of MgTi2O5 is lower than that of Fe2TiO5.So the generating speed of high melting compound MgTi2O5 is faster than low melting compound Fe2TiO5 during the heating process which made the viscosity of smelting furnace slag decrease with the temperature rising.2. After comprehensive analysis, the anti erosion ability of four kinds of carbon refractories is as follows: Al2O3-SiC-C, Magnesia bricks with 8% carbon content, Magnesia bricks with 15% carbon content,and Aluminate Magnesia brick.3. Based on the test results from different additives added into Magnesia bricks, the erosion principle of five kinds of ladle slag to Magnesia brick is different and the anti-slag ability of Magnesia brick will be apparently approved with reasonable additive selection based on slag characteristics.
