Hydrogenated nitrile rubber (HNBR) has been widely used in many fields, owing to its excellent properties such as oil proof, heat resistance and chemical resistance. The research content of this article has three main parts. Firstly, though the research on HNBR (Zetpol), the effects of processing technology and formulations on the properties of HNBR were investigated. Secondly, the high performance sealing materials were prepared by using the HNBR (Y-41) which developed independently as the rubber matrix and adjusting the formula. Thirdly, the feasibility of using the silica in-situ modified by silane coupling agent as filler to prepare the light-colored sealing materials with high performance were studied. At the first part, the formulations and processing technology of HNBR (2010L) were investigated. It was found that, with increasing the dosage of curing agent, the crosslinking density of HNBR vulcanizates increased. The HNBR reinforced by carbon black had the best comprehensive performance. Aging resistance was improved by using Naugard 445 and ZMMBI, and curing density did not decreased deeply and compression set were at low level. The Tg of HNBR vulcanizate filled with TP-95 were reduced remarkably. Then, the effects of the dosage of antioxidant and plasticizer on properties of HNBR (3310) were studied. Results showed that with the addition of antioxidant, the crosslinking density decreased. Moreover, the influence of Naugard 445 on the crosslinking density was more serious than ZMMBI. With increasing in the amount of plasticizer DOP, the mooney viscosity decreased, the compression set and the elongation at break increased, the low temperature resistance got better. At the second part, the effects of the variety of HNBR on properties were investigated. The results indicated that, due to the high content of acrylonitrile, HNBR (Y-41) had the strong polar of molecular chain and processed excellent oil resistant and aging resistant, and fine mechanical properties. Finally, the HNBR (Y-41) was selected to use as rubber matrix. Then, the effects of curing agents, fillers and plasticizers on properties of HNBR were studied. Results showed that the crosslinking density of HNBR vulcanizates was most appropriate to balance the elongation at break and compression set when the 2,5-Dimethyl-2,5-di(tert-butylperoxy)hexane and TAIC were used as curing agent, and the dosage of them were 5phr and 4phr, respectively. The HNBR vulcanizates filled with N990 had the lowest compression set. When using DOP and TOTM as plasticizers, the HNBR had low Mooney Viscosity and compression set, fine mechanical properties, and good low temperature resisitance. At the third part, the feasibility of using the silica in-situ modified by silane coupling agent as filler to prepare the light-colored sealing material with low compression set and high elongation at break were investigated. It was found that HNBR/silica nanocomposites prepared by in-situ modification with silane coupling agent (A151 and WD70) had the best comprehensive performance. The high performance of HNBR vulcanizates that elongation at break was 253%, tensile strength was 24MPa, and compression set was 38% would be obtained when the amount of silica were 35phr. In summary, the way to prepare light-colored HNBR sealing material was feasible.
