Since the discovery of dental resin materials in 1970s,a large number of researchers has focused on its study and its clinical applications has developed fast, due to its artistic appearance, favorable adhesive proper-ties with teeth, minimally invasive of treatment, and easy to operate with visible light-curing technology. However, till now, there is still some defect that prevent its further application in clinic. As the research of clinical treatment show, saprodontia, to which quite possibly the polymerization shrinkage lead, and drawbacks of physical properties are the key factors of clinical failure. Therefore, to find the way that can reduce volume shrinkage when polymerizing and improved mechanical properties plays a vital role in the field of dental restorative materials.The cooperating of expanding monomer can decrease the polymeri-zation shrinkage, but followed with lower in physical properties test data. Then,Organic-Inorganic materials POSS has been introduced to enhance the performance and crosslinking. POSS has inorganic Si-O cage structure which provide excellent mechanical behavior in the core, with reactive programmable functional group in the shell. Non-reactive group may improve the compatibility with polymer matrix, and reactive group can be bonded with other monomer by chemical reactive, thus to prepare a composite materials with improved property.In this paper, an expanding monomer DB-TOSU and epoxy POSS (Q8M4HM4E) has been successfully synthesized. Because the epoxy group’s ring opening can initiate the spiro-heterocycle’s ring opening, so they may form a copolymer system. The resin matrix modified with the copolymer system has been prepared with the initiation CQ、PI and DMAEMA and a hybrid light curing system, and their properties has been studied Finally, to prepare dental composite materials with silane-coupli-ng SiO2 and the modified resin, followed with its properties’test.As a result, DB-TOSU and epoxy POSS were soluble in the resin matrix; the modified resin has excellent properties like decreasing polymerization shrinkage,improved hydrophobicity, thermostability and physical properties. Then, with SiO2 inorganic fillers, the dental materials has gained a better mechanical properties and thermostability, and the volume shrinkage has lightly decreased, and the optimal content is 50%, with further content, the matrix may congeal.
