Ultra high molecular weight polyethylene fiber is one of the threehigh performance fiberstogether with carbon fiber and aramid fiber, which has excellent performances of high specific strength and modulus, the quality easy to float on the water surface, excellent resistanceof impact, UV resistance, resistance to chemical corrosion. Ultra high molecular weight polyethylene fiber will have a wide application in the area of modern military equipmen, composite materials of aerospace, marine engineeringand other fields.High performance special cable is a tool with special structure in the development of technology and social development, especially the wide application of new materials and the extension of human activities. It has advantages of high strength, it can meet the requirements of different areas of technology.It can be used to replace the traditional field of wire rope. Special cable has been listed in the national important strategic demand materials.This paper discusses the surface morphology,mechanical properties and thermal propertiesof ultra high molecular weight polyethylene fiber, the young’s modulus and Poisson’s ratio, DSC curves, creep curve were then determined.Those provided theoretical support for the further study of the cable surface coating, drawing heat and establish of mechanics model.In order to improve the surface properties of the cable and the inherent quality, functional polyurethane was used to coat on the cable surface, which will form a plastic layer. The results of the polyurethane films testsshows that, the coating of the cable was smooth which can reduce surface tension, provide the cable with waterproof and oil repellency. Polyurethane film elongation is far greater than the elongation of the cable, so the coating can keep good condition in use.This paper also conducted the way of the production of coated cable, which consists of the cable dip coating, pre drying, drying, baking drawing functional finishing. Theparameters of each process was also determined. After finishing, the results of the test shows that rope breaking strength increased by 8%, the elongation decreased 15%~60%, which means that the performances of cable has improved significantly.The three-dimensional model was established according to the structure of cable and mechanical stretching process was simulated with finite element analysis technology. Cable link tensile process with serious force or large deformationand the integrity of the process of drawing can be also analyzed during the process.
