Good ecological environment is the basic of human survival and development. The premise of economic and social development is maintaining the stability and balance of ecological environment. In recent years, due to coal mining, enormous ecological environment pollution and destruction problems have appeared in mining area, so the environmental pollution investigation and management of mining area has become an urgent subject for sustainable development. Vegetation is an important parameter indicating ecological environment. Through vegetation information extraction and monitoring, this paper gets the condition of vegetation recovery in order to indirectly reflect ecological environment of mining area and provide technical support for the environmental pollution monitoring of mining area.Presently, there is no literature using remote sensing data integrated NDVI, vegetation coverage and biomass information to analyze vegetation restoration in Fushun mining area. Taking Fushun mining area as an example, this paper uses four Landsat TM images to do a comprehensive research on specific numerical statistics and spatial distribution pattern of vegetation change situation, according to the characteristics of vegetation and remote sensing image. The research has two angles, vegetation coverage degree and production capacity. In this way, the paper can get mining area ecological environment changes indirectly. In this paper, the studies had been made as following:1. From four Fushun mining area images, NDVI values can be acquired by ERDAS software respectively. Compared the NDVI changes of Fushun mining area before and after three years in the same month, the paper not only gets the overview of vegetation changes in study area, but also establishes research foundation for the extraction of vegetation coverage and biomass next.2. This paper grades the extractive vegetation coverage of Fushun mining area, then analyzes the proportion changes of different vegetation levels and gets the area transfer matrix of different vegetation coverage levels through ENVI software in order to understand vegetation recovery from internal transformation of vegetation level.3. Based on NDVI value and measured data, four kinds of biomass inversion models are established for vegetation recovery study from the perspective of vegetation productivity. After inspection, each model has a good correlation with biomass measured values and a high precision. Among them, cubic polynomial model that correlation coefficients are all above 0.8 has the best correlation with measured values, so it can be applied to biomass model inversion in Fushun mining area. The results show that using remote sensing technology, combining with measured data from mining area, can effectively extract the vegetation information of mining area. The introduction of biomass model can improve the level of comprehensive mining area ecological environment monitoring. It has great application value in dynamic monitoring of the ecological environment in the same type of mining.
