Activated carbon was prepared using coconut shell as raw materials by the sequence of crushing, screening, carbonization and activation. The effect of carbonization and activation conditions on benzene value and Vitamins B12 value were investigated. The results show that when carbonization temperature is 400 ℃, holding time is 50minutes and temperature heating rate is 5℃·min-1, the adsorptation value of benzene and vitamins B12 reach 163.04mg·g-1 and 19.16mg·g-1 respectively. To improve adsorption ability of activated carbon, the carbon production mentioned above was further activated using KOH as activator under different conditions. The results show that, when the mass ratio of carbons and KOH is 1:4, holding time is 60 minutes and activated temperature is 800 ℃, benzene value and Vitamins B12 value are improved from 163.01mg·g-1 and 17.19mg·g-1 to 589.14mg·g-1 and 32.52mg·g-1 respectively.
