In recent years, along with the constantly strengthening public’s awareness of environmental safety, the increasing responsibilities of environment monitoring and the urgent requirement of information management of various monitoring data, so it is very important to build an integrated laboratory information management system for quickly realizing the dynamic monitoring, environmental quality forewarning as well as the accident prediction of environmental emergency, inquiry and statics of environmental conditions.Environmental monitoring laboratory information management system(LIMS) is the core of environmental monitoring information construction that could realize the comprehensive and effective management of laboratory and monitoring service and supplied the timely and accurate data for law-enforcing departments and supervisory institutions. Through the system construction, the management pattern of monitoring service will be transformed from the previous semi-hand to partial information to finally automation and comprehensive informatization.This work is aimed at vigorously carrying out the construction of information management of the Suzhou environmental monitoring center to solve a series of problems, such as irrationality of the management and the defection of monitoring network and system which resulted in high workload, shortstorage period, information sharing not timely and high error rate and so forth. By investigating the domestic and overseas literatures, the study analyzed the current state of laboratory information management and explored the existing problems of laboratory management. The administrative functions of various departments were also investigated to learn the actual situation and need of various departments, plan the research objective and content, and design the model of laboratory information management system, apply advanced design concept and software methods, build an automatic and digitized information platform to realize the overall quality control of the staffs, instruments, samples, materials, methods and environment.
