CdS is a promising visible light photocatalyst, with narrow bandgap (Eg=2.42 eV). More and more attentions were focused on it. Herein, we explored a simple method to obtain Au-CdS compound structures at room temperature. Ultra-thin Cd(OH)2 nanowires were used as a templet as well as Cd source. Our method had lower energy consumption, compared to the traditional methods such as hydrothermal method,thermal spraying method and microemulsion method. In the experiment, we found the best Au-CdS photocatalyst with the optimal proportion of Au and CdS and the suitable size of Au nanoparticles.The main contents of this research are listed below.(1) Ultrathin CdS nanowires with a diameter of 1.9 nm were prepared. The structures,optical properties and photodegradation efficiency of the as-prepared samples were explored. The photocatalytic activity of the CdS nanowires is high owing to the ultrathin CdS structure and large specific surface area.(2) 40 nm Au nanoparticles(NPs) were used to prepare Au-Cd(OH)2 hybrids. Starfish-like Au-Cd(OH)2 structure (SFs) was obtained. We found the stucture of Au-CdS hybrids was same to that of Au-Cd(OH)2 SFs. Further research showed that when the loading amount of Au was 16 wt%, the Au-CdS SFs exhibit the highest photocatalytic efficiency for RhB.(3) As is known to all, the size and the loading amount of Au both have great influence on the photocatalytic activity of Au-CdS hybrids. To explore the best size and the loading amout of Au nanoparticles,5 nm,20 nm and 100 nm Au NPs with were used. A series of Au-CdS with different loading amount of Au NPs were obtained. We found the Au-CdS hybrids with 3.2 wt% loading amount of 20 nm Au NPs exhibited the highest photocatalytic activity.(4)Water-soluble fullerene were prepared. The characterization of C60-CdS hybrids were explored, and the optimal ratio of C6o and CdS were found.
