Textile material are irradiated by light whose wavelength is different in the process of using, so it can produce light aging phenomenon easily. Wool fiber is an expensive natural animal fiber, it has many advantages, but if it is irradiated for a long time by ultraviolet, its strength will decrease and it will appear yellowing phenomenon, so it is necessary to carry on the functional modification on wool fiber. Titanium dioxide modified wool fiber not only has good antibacterial property, photocatalytic activity, but also can resist ultraviolet irradiation and prolong working life.In this paper, wool fiber was treated by heat water with isopropyl titanate and tetrabutyl titanate as precursor, and then irradiation of different wavelength’s ultraviolet and visible light were carried out on the wool fiber, and the experiment of the wool fiber tensile, yellow degree and whiteness, and the photocatalytic degradation of organic dyes were done,which is to study the mechanism of titanium dioxide coated layer of wool fiber effecting the substrate, at the same time scanning electron microscope(sem), X-ray energy spectrometer,X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectrometer, thermogravimetric analyzer, ultraviolet-visible test and analysis system and other instruments had been used to characterize the structure of wool fiber. The results show that:wool, pure water heat treatment of wool, tetrabutyl titanate modified wool, isopropyl titanate modified wool were irradiated respectively in 254 nm, 365 nm ultraviolet and visible light, The experimental results showed that the irradiation of 365 nm ultraviolet and visible light had less effect on the four kinds of wool fiber’s structure and performance. 254 nm ultraviolet had a greater influence on the wool fiber structure and performance, short time irradiation also can cause a degree of wool fiber damage. After irradiation of ultraviolet or visible light,wool fiber’s crystallinity and orientation degree declined, but wool fiber loaded by titanium dioxide decreased smaller than wool fiber, titanium dioxide on the wool fiber surface played a roal of protection on substrate instead of photocatalytic destruction. But with the extension of irradiation time, the tensile strength of the modified wool fiber will also decline, yellow degree increased, the surface etched. Wool fiber loaded by titanium dioxide had good catalytic activity, especially isopropyl titanate modified wool fiber, it can be effective to degradate dye under the irradiation of ultraviolet and visible light, and also can be used repeatedly.A doped nanometer titanium dioxide was prepared by adding waste wool fiber in the process of hydrothermal. Photocatalytic degradation of dye results showed that when the titanium tetrachloride and tetrabutyl titanate were added waste wool fiber, the ability of photocatalytic degradation of dye was good under ultraviolet irradiation, especially visible light irradiation,its effect was more outstanding.
