The effects of N5:bis(2-ethylhexyl)(butylamino)methylphosphonate on the extraction of Ce (Ⅳ), Th (Ⅳ) in n-heptane from sulfuric acid medium such as different variables on the extraction of Ce (Ⅳ), Th (Ⅳ) such as the concentrations of H2SO4, the concentration of extractant, temperature, flow ratio and different types of diluents were investigated, the Ce (Ⅳ), Th (Ⅳ) extraction mechanism has been investigated using the method of slope analysis and the IR spectra of N5 loaded with Ce (Ⅳ), Th (Ⅳ) were employed to indicate the composition of the complexes as Th(HSO4)2SO4·N5 and Ce(HSO4)2SO4·2N5, respectively. The thermodynamic functions of Ce (Ⅳ), Th (Ⅳ) have been determined, proving exothermic and spontaneous reaction of the extraction process. Furthermore, the characteristics of the stripping of Ce (Ⅳ) from the loaded organic phase were also studied. The results showed that it has a positive effect on the potential application in the chemistry.
