With the rapid development of social economy, the magnetic materials have been widely used in many fields. This paper presented that the magnetic polymer Fe3O4/PSt having a special core/shell structure was prepared with the method of emulsion polymerization, in which the core consists of Fe3O4 modified by oleic acid and the shell is made of polystyrene (PSt). The optimized conditions for preparing magnetic polymer was determined through orthogonal experiments. The magnetic polymer was characterized by infrared spectrometry, X-ray powder diffraction, thermogravimetric analysis, etc.The magnetic carbon materials was obtained by heating above magnetic polymer of Fe3O4/PSt at 340 ℃ for 3 h in N2 atmosphere, the consequent product was then characterized by infrared spectrometry, X-ray powder diffraction, thermogravimetric analysis and other methods. The maximum adsorption capacity of the magnetic carbon materials to methylene blue solution is 53.61 mg/g at room temperature. The equilibrium adsorption capacities of the magnetic carbon material on the methylene blue solutions was fitted with Langmuir adsorption isotherm equation and Freundlich adsorption isotherm equation and the kinetic equation of adsorption was established through fitting the adsorption data with pseudo-first-order and pseudo-second-order equations. The result shows that the equilibrium capacities of adsorption for methylene blue solutions could be describe by Freundlich adsorption isotherm models(R2= 0.9845)more accurately and the adsorption to methylene blue could be best described with pseudo-second-order equation. The used magnetic carbon material after the adsorption to methylene blue could be recycled through treating it at 340 ℃ for 2 h under atmosphere of N2. The maximum adsorption capacity of 0.01g the recycled magnetic carbon material is 7.29 mg/g after 20 min of adsorption.
