Carbon dioxide geological storage technology is one of the effective measures of carbon emission reduction, and attracts more attention from the domestic and foreign governments, enterprises and research institutions. The foreign carbon dioxide geological storage is developing rapidly, but it is still at the starting stage in China. In order to ensure the safe and reliable operation of the geological storage project and approve the storage capacity, we need to carry out the whole process measurement and monitoring for the storage project. Therefore, the regular monitoring of the carbon dioxide probably leaking into the groundwater, soil and atmospheric environments can be performed by comparing the background monitoring value prior to the project and the regular monitoring value after implementation of the project, which provides data support for the safe operation of the geological storage project and carbon storage benefits. This thesis introduces the basic theory of the carbon dioxide geological storage in deep saline aquifer, and expounds the purpose and significance of the monitoring of the carbon dioxide geological storage project. Combining with the research data at home and abroad, the purpose and characteristics of the monitoring work are analyzed in view of the different monitoring stages. In addition, this thesis presents the principles of atmospheric monitoring, soil monitoring, groundwater monitoring, remote sensing monitoring, geophysical monitoring and other monitoring techniques in detail. Finally, this thesis gives a monitoring case of the carbon dioxide geological storage demonstration project in Ordos, and shows the research results of the demonstration project. These results provide the reference for future demonstration projects, and lay the foundation for the continuous research of monitoring technology.
