Electrical Melting and Explosion(EME)Technology is a new metal processing technology with its own intellectual property rights, the macro performance of which is the thermal effect of high energy arc. EME has outstanding advantages in the processing efficiency, materials and other aspects. In EME processing, the processing parameters have a great influence on machining results, and the temperature of the arc area is up to a thousand degrees, all of which increase the difficulties to relevant test. To a certain extent, a high cost and high difficulty test has blocked the formulation of related parameters, and hindered the rapid development of EME technology.In this paper, the numerical simulation of the plasma arc is carried out. With the development of computer technology and simulation calculation theory, introducing modern computer simulation technology to the in-depth study of EME technology not only can reduce the blindness of experimental study, but also can provide a good foundation for experimental researches, which will better promote the industrial development of EME technology.Based on the arc principle, arc formation theory, plasma heat transfer and flow, a two-dimensional mathematical model of arc plasma has been established by combining the three conservation laws and the magnetic fluid dynamic governing equations and considering the influence of magnetism on arc behavior. According to the actual situation of processing, the detailed model with control equations and boundary conditions in the numerical treatment is defined. The correctness of model and program is verified by the free arc model. Then, based on the secondary development of FLUENT software, plasma arc model of EME processing is simulated by CFD software. And the distribution of electromagnetic field, temperature field and velocity field of plasma arc are studied and analyzed.The influence of single parameter on the velocity field, pressure field, electric field, temperature field of arc, arc axis and the anode surface is studied. The results indicate that the current intensity has a great influence on the physical fields of arc and the anode surface. To a certain extent, the increase of the current is conducive to the improvement of the material corrosion rate of the electric melting explosive. The increase of inlet velocity makes the arc shape to shrink, causes the current density in the central region of anode increase, but it has little effect on characteristics of arc.
