With the development of economic and utilization of the ocean caused a lots problems on the environment of ocean. The quality of water and the environment of ocean turns bad.For the damage of marine pollution and marine environment, a variety of technical means enabling the discovery and development of remote sensing technology which is on the quality of marine environment and marine testing. Compared with traditional testing means,remote sensing has lots of advantages,such as more fast,extensive,synchronization of real-time and so on. The use of remote sensing technology on marine greatly improved the efficiency. It has a great significance on marine testing and marine monitoring.The paper based on Landsat8 OLI multispectral data and actual sampling data at the same time, studied the suspended sediment concentration and chlorophyll a concentration of the Pearl River Estuary. The study first try to find the band of OLI which is sensitive to the suspended sediment concentration and chlorophyll a concentration then use the sensitive band and sampling data to construct remote sensing models in each season of the year such as liner model,logarithmic model,index model,polynomial model. Among the models we chose the best one and do the error analysis to test standard range. Then we get the results of the suspended sediment concentration and chlorophyll a concentration of the Pearl River Estuary in each season of the year. Not only the spatially and temporally characteristics but also the mechanism of the results were analyzed in detail.First,in time scale,suspended sediment concentration and chlorophyll a concentration were the lowest on winter but the highest on summer,suspended sediment concentration and chlorophyll a concentration on spring and autumn were between the highest and lowest.Large rainfall and runoff carried more suspendedsediment concentration and nutrients into water so thatuspended sediment concentration and chlorophyll a concentration are hightest on summer. The Pearl River Estuary prevails southwest wind cause upwelling along the bank the cause more suspended sediment concentration and chlorophyll a concentration carried on sea surface. With high temperature in summer chlorophyll a concentration is higher than in winter.Second,on the spatial scale, the highest occured on the southwest of the Pearl River Estuary,the lowest occured on the southeast of the Pearl River Estuary. The data nearshore is greater than data offshore. Due to wind and runoff data of the Pearl River Estuary on southwest in coastal much higher than southeast coastal.This phenomenon is related with the climate,precipitation,runoff flow,tide current,wind distribution and Guangdong Province seasonal upwelling.Last,to inversion suspended sediment concentration and chlorophyll a of the Pearl River Estuary through Landsat8 OLI multispectral data,we fond the ability of Landsat8 monitor suspended sediment is better than chlorophyll a. The band of OLI is more sensitive to suspended sediment.
