Series Of Wooden Folding Chairs Design Based On The Packing And Folding Structure

With the rapid development of urban economy and the increase of population, the living space is getting relatively small.Therefore, how to use the limited space efficiently has become a current topic which designers should take into consideration. Folding furniture can be an excellent choice to take full advantage of space. As one kind of folding furniture, folding chair is different from other chairs since it is lightweight and stackable. Its design also includes the design of its outlook, the structure and the ratiocination. There are many kinds of folding structures, different folding structures correspond to different folding methods, which can greatly affect the seat materials, structures and shapes etc.This paper,on the basis of packing and folding structure, intends to design folding chairs by exploring the relations between structure and shape,drafted to save space effectively,to meet diverse needs of different people as being easy to carry and store. First of all, by analyzing the design work and the research status of domestic and foreign researchers, the author explained the relationship between the packing and folding structure and analyzed the motion,the characteristics and the constraint of the axial and parallel structures. The packing and folding structure, as one type of common folding structure s,achieves the packing by folding, then realize the function of collapsible. The axis structure get folded through the rolling of axis and axis center, while the the parallel structure get folded through the movement of axis and axis center,the later achieve the function in the light of instability of parallelogram. Based on market research and analysis, we found that the current folding chairs on the market has varied shapes but lack of creativity on the whole.In the use of material, most of chairs are made of plastic with single folding way.Meanwhile,by using the questionnaire to analyze the consumer’s needs and figuring out the actual demands of consumers and the market inadequacies, this paper takes the user’s actual needs as the starting point of design innovation.This design uses the wood as the main material, utilizes the folding structure and completes the series design of folding chairs in accordance with the standards of physical engineering strictly.In the design practice, taking a folding chair as an example, the physical sample of the folding chair and the non folding chair are compared. Under the same experimental conditions, compared with the experimental data of the static load and durability of the folding chair and the non folding chair, the difference is small, which shows that the structure design of the folding chair has a better strength.Through this design practice,the author has a better understanding on folding structure, and there is a guidance significance to the future design activity.
