In this paper, the friction welding method is applied to work out the problem of the dissimilar metals connection of aluminum & steel. For solving the problem of excessive vibration, welded joints’wrong positions and bad properties of vertical friction welding equipment. Its slide, workbench, and the parameters control system was optimally tested and dedesigned, so to ensure the stability of welding process.The key of connecting aluminum & steel is how to reduce the loss of heat in welding. In this paper, the design of deformation-resisted loop and slotted process in steel side was aimed to improve the joint strength of aluminum & steel. Experiments show that the two processes helped to enhance the joint strength. Aluminum & stainless with form limited ring and rotating speed of 1600 r/min, the friction pressure of 91.6 MPa, friction time of 5s, upsetting force of 183.1 MPa, upset forging pressure keeping time for the 5s is the optimal process parameters, and the joint tensile strength reached 164.1 MPa.A banded region was appeared in the aluminum base material when microstructure analysis. The region was distributed carbon atoms when scanning electron microscopy.Meanwhile, the region in joint what with deformation-resisted loop was more narrow and shallow.This means that the interface was transferred in a more shorter time and a small number of carbon atoms. In conclusion the form limited ring prevented the loss of interfacial friction heat.Steeltransition layer used in the welding process of aluminum stud and steel plate, the tensile strength is stronger than the joint without steel transition layer. When rotating speed of 2000 r/min, the friction pressure of 122.1 MPa, friction time of 2s, upsetting force of 183.1 MPa, upset forging pressure keeping time for the 3s is the optimal process parameters, and the joint tensile strength reached 127.9 MPa. This method that simpllifies the problem of the asymmetry of materials and structure to two easier problems of the asymmetry of materials and the asymmetry of structure owns engineering application value.
