Endocrine disrupting compounds (EDCs) a group of pollutants with estrogenic or androgenic activity at very low concentrations, are emerging as a major concern for safety of water resources. Within the past few decades great endeavors have been done on the removal of EDCs in wastewater but efficient remediation of EDCs has not been established. This study was conducted to determine the biodegradation of Bisphenol A (BPA) by bacteria strain of Pseudomonas fluorescens and freshwater alga Chlamydomonas reinhardtii (wild-type green algae) from water.The results showed that, more than half of the initial concentration (1mgL-1) of BPA spiked in the samples containing tap water obtained average percentage removal on day (5) days as 78.4,77.1 and 77.5% for P. fluorescens, C. reinhardtii and mixed culture samples respectively. But the BPA biodegradation at the end of experiment for P. fluorescens, C. reinhardtii and mixed culture group samples were 0.4615,0.5192, and 0.4348 mgL-1 respectively. However, the biodegradation of BPA from the mixed culture sample was relatively lower than the monocultures.
