In the current situation of scarcity of oil resources, the petroleum refining industry is facing very serious challenges. Slurry bed hydrocracking process plays an important role in the petroleum refining industry. Bubble column reactor is the main unit of this process, studying its hydrodynamic characteristics is very meaningful.Hydrodynamic model of bubble column reactor designed by Beijing University of Chemical Technology is established and calculated in the CFD software Fluent. The numerical simulation results of gas holdup and axial liquid velocity are in good agreement with the experiment data, so the model is proved to be reasonable and reliable.Bubble column reactor designed by ourselves is also simulated using the same hydrodynamic model. The best Axial position for measurement and initial liquid level are determined by comparison of different values, the gas holdup and axial liquid velocity of bubble column reactor significantly increase with the increasing superficial velocity, the bubble of smaller diameter significantly affected the hydrodynamics of reactor by analyzing the different bubble sizes, The effect of different liquid density on the hydrodynamics characteristic of bubble column reactor is very small and can be neglected, but the liquid viscosity has a significant effect on gas holdup and axial liquid velocity.One-dimensional model has been developed to predict the hydrodynamics of bubble column reactor by the establishment of energy balance, momentum balance and material balance and the help of drift-flux model of Zuber-Findlay, an excellent agreement has been shown between the predicted and experimental data of all the cases.On the basis of the industry background of slurry bed hydrocracking process, reasonable experiment process and bubble column reactor are designed; The hydrodynamic parameters, operating conditions, experimental systems and suitable measurement methods are also determined.In this paper bubble column reactor is simulated by the numerical simulation and one-dimensional model, and the initial design of experimental study has also been made. It can provide a basis for the future research, and provide data for the design and optimization of bubble column reactor.
