Intangible cultural heritage and tangible cultural heritage, which belong to the category of cultural heritage, are the treasures of a State and nation. They not only coagulate the ordinary workers’ creativities from the practice of the normal life, but also express and inherit the national values. Tangible cultural heritage and intangible cultural heritage cannot be separated. Under the impact of globalization and the market economy, we cannot only protect the intangible cultural heritage itself any longer. Protecting the architectural environment and the cultural environment, which bear the intangible cultural heritage, has the great significance for the cultural heritage protection and inheritance.The birthplace of Xuan paper-- Xiao Ling, a village of Jing county, has long history and deeply cultural deposits. The craftsmanship of Xuan paper in this village is different from other manual paper-making process, because of its unique and ecological craft. Studying the relationship between Xuan paper production process in Xiao Ling and architectural space environment is crucial. This paper focuses on studying the traditional craftsmanship of Xiao Ling Xuan paper and its architectural space environment, and tries to attain the method of protecting and making use of them.In the first half of the paper, we mainly analyze the tendency of intangible cultural heritage protection at home and abroad, then expound history of Xiao Ling Xuan paper, present situation and its craftsmanship, and study on the architectural space environment of this village. By analyzing natural surroundings of Xiao Ling village, such as village space, courtyard space and architectural space, and using the multiple perspectives, we explore the methods to protect the Xiao Ling Xuan paper’s craftsmanship and its architectural space environmentIn the latter part, the article mainly studies on the relationship between specific paper-making process and architectural space environment, including surroundings of architectures, village internal architecture and interior space. In addition, the article explains how this relationship works in these spaces.The handmade paper craft of Xiao Ling relates to political, economic, cultural and ecological factors, so the integrity of the intangible cultural heritage and its architectural space environment carries more weight in protecting. According to this, the article lists specific methods and principles for the Xiao Ling Xuan paper’s craftsmanship and architectural space environment protection, in order to create the Xiao Ling Xuan paper’s craftsmanship and its architectural space environment as a whole. Finally, form a cultural subjectivity based on the craftsmanship of Xiao Ling Xuan paper, which can combine the intangible cultural heritage with tangible cultural heritage, and create a diversified, dynamic and ecological intangible cultural heritage protection.
