With the rapid economic development and urbanization of China in recent years, the haze pollution is getting more and more serious. The particulates in haze have very strong activity, which not only significantly reduce the atmospheric visibility and the threat to the transportation security, the toxic substances in haze but also will cause serious injury to human health. Therefore, the haze pollution has become one of the biggest environmental problems which must be solved. With the continuous development of satellite sensors, it quickly became the most important and effective monitoring means of atmospheric pollution having wide coverage, timeliness, economy and other merits. MODIS sensor is an important instrument equipped on the EOS satellite, and has great potential in haze pollution and other environmental studies. As one of the most economically developed and largest cities of China, in recent years, the haze pollution occurs in Shanghai area more and more frequently. For example, two significant haze pollutions appeared in January and December, 2013 separately, which had a tremendous impact on the living environment and the sustainable urban development. Taking Shanghai area as a research area and the haze pollution on December, 2013 as an example, this paper proposes to use 6S transmission model and V5.2 algorithm to retrieval the aerosol optical depth(AOD) from MODIS remote images. The main contents of this paper include:(1) Collecting and analyzing the API / AQI and PM 2.5, CO, PM 10 and other pollutants data in Shanghai area in recent years, and then selecting the consecutive days of the most severe haze pollution as the main time window after a lot of experiments;(2) Selecting the criteria in line with the actual situation of the study area and V5.2 algorithm, and performing the inversion of AOD of Shanghai area based on sensitivity analysis on 6S transmission model. And then doing visual representation of the pollution effects and haze spatial variation in the form of administrative map in Shanghai;(3) Analyzing the haze pollution of Shanghai in December 2013, and comparing with Anhui province, Jiangsu province, Zhejiang province and Shandong province, and then discussing the relationship of haze pollution among different regions.Compared with the specific weather conditions and the corresponding AQI, PM 2.5, it has certain feasibility and accuracy to use 6S transmission model and V5.2 algorithm to invert haze pollution in Shanghai area. For the experimental results of this study, the haze pollution in Shanghai area is subject to local production and foreign migration. Therefore, it is necessary to have mutual cooperation and joint prevention among different regions and departments in the haze pollution reduction. And the results can also provide a reference for the government to control haze pollution.
