In the structure of the vacuum tower with the heat exchanger, the heat exchanger is supported through welding on the vacuum tower body, and the instability may happen in the vacuum tower body support parts. The whole tower is under external pressure, and the welding four local areas are also under the partial load. In order to ensure the stability of the structure, it is necessary to discuss the partial radial critical load under different situation of welding parts.A pressure test device has been designed for the buckling analysis of thin-walled cylinder with the combination of local radial load and external pressure ranging from 0~0.1MPa. "Lulu" cans are used for experiments. The local radial critical load and buckling mode have been received for the thin-walled cylinder under different radial loading area and different external pressures. The eigenvalue buckling analysis of every experimental models have been carried out through the finite element software ANSYS.16 groups of different parameters of cylinder structure have been arranged by orthogonal design method. Eigenvalue buckling analysis has been carried out on the different models. An empirical formula of local radial critical load with the dimensionless parameters has been worked out by the least square method, and the different parameters’ influence on the result has been discussed.A bracket with four local areas has been studied with reference to the actual structure.The empirical formulas of long and short cylinders with four local areas have been worked out by parametric analysis. The influence of the different parameters on the result has been discussed.This article also compares the two formulas of the long and short cylinders with four local areas. The two formulas of short cylinders with four local areas and single area is also discussed carefully.
