In this work, a solid-phase preparation method was used to synthesize novel supported rubber antioxidants. In this supported rubber antioxidant, silica as a supporter and phenolic antioxidant 2, 2’-methylenebis(6-tert-butyl-4-methyl-phenol)(antioxidant 2246) react in solid state to form environmentally friendly multifunctional silica-supported rubber antioxidants SiO2-2246 and SiO2-s-2246.At first, the phenolic hydroxyls in 2246 molecules and silicon hydroxyls on silica surface directly react in solid phase to prepare supported rubber antioxidant SiO2-2246. FT-IR, Raman spectroscopy and TGA were used to characterize that the antioxidant 2246 was chemically bonded on the surface of the silica particles and to ensure the structure of SiO2-2246. Then the antioxidative behavior and mechanical properties of SiO2-2246 in SBR composites were investigated. It turned out that the SiO2-2246 could significantly improve the thermo-oxidative and ultraviolet-oxidative stability of the SBR composites compared to the corresponding low-molecular-weight 2246. However, it had little influence on mechanical properties of SBR composites.Considering this, silane coupling agent γ-(2, 3-epoxypropoxy) propytrimethoxysilane(KH560) was further applied to modify the supported rubber antioxidants SiO2-2246 and prepare a new silica-supported rubber antioxidants SiO2-s-2246. FT-IR, Raman spectroscopy and TGA were used to confirm the structure of SiO2-s-2246. The results showed that the coupling agent KH560 forms chemical bondings with SiO2 and 2246.It was found that the novel supported rubber antioxidant SiO2-s-2246 can effectively facilitate the fine dispersion of silica particles in the SBR matrix and the interfacial interaction in SBR/ SiO2-s-2246 composites was stronger than that in SBR/ SiO2-2246 composites, leading to a remarkable improvement of mechanical properties for SBR/ SiO2-s-2246 composites.On the other hand, its antioxidative behavior in SBR composites was taken into consideration.The results indicated that the thermo-oxidative stability of SBR/ SiO2-s-2246 composites were little lower than that of SBR/ SiO2-2246 composites,but much higher than that of the corresponding low-molecular-weight 2246. And the ultraviolet-oxidative stability of the SBR/ SiO2-s-2246 composites was the same as SBR/ SiO2-2246 composites.
