Large forging is commonly used in the key parts of machinery and equipment. In the process of forging, real-time dimension information can guide the follow-up production. So, Dimension measuring has a great influence on improving production efficiency and resource utilization. Traditional contact measurement technology cannot measure hot forging online accurately. However, non-contact measurement has been developed rapidly due to its characteristics of fast, accuracy and security. According to the process characteristics of hot shaft forging, a measurement system based on structured light is introduced, which can measure the key parameter rapidly. Therefore, the research conducted in this paper was listed as follows:(1) The measurement principle of structured light was study. Calculation formula fromhighlights collected by CCD camera to point cloud are deduced. It provide theoretical basis for thefollow-up program implementation.(2) On the basis of meeting the demand of measuring, PC operating software of themeasurement system is developed. It realized the power management, movement control ofscanning platforms, data reception and calculation, and 3D model reconstruction based onOpenGL.(3) According to the characteristics of point clouds collected by the system, the noise data arefiltered out by the method of scope filtering, edge points filtering and triangular filtering. Then, amethod to realize the segmentation of point cloud automatically is introduced. Finally, the keyparameters of the shaft forgings are calculated, including diameter, length, coaxiality and eccentricmagnitude.(4) Experiment table was set up based on the measurement system. Measurement experimentson the analog work-piece and actual work-piece are performed for different purpose. After analyzing the result, measurement error source was analyzed, and solutions are proposed, which to lay the foundation of high speed and high precision measurement system.
