In our country, cathodic protection technology has not been applied to crude oil storage tanks in the early days. As time goes on, the threat of the corrosion to the safe operation of the tank has become increasingly prominent. Related units began to take measures to resist the corrosion by using cathodic protection on crude oil storage tanks. With the development of technology, there are a lot of new materials and new construction techniques. The various cathodic protections have some advantages and disadvantages respectively. However, there have been not the comparative analysis of different methods in the same tank farm of cathodic protection. In this paper, we use two different methods of cathodic protection to deal with the same tank farm tank bottom wall additional cathodic protection. By comparing the protective effect of the two methods, we select the one cathodic protection method for the large storage tanks. The following are conclusions:The feeding test is the essential working link of regional cathodic protection for the tank farm or plant. By testing we can determine the actual current demand as well as clear the actual current distributionThere are some deviations to measure the cathodic protection potential in the edge of tank using Cu/saturated CuSO4 reference electrodes. Under conditions permitting, it implants the reference electrodes to bottom of the tank with thedirectional drilling way to measure the potential more precisely.Through scientific design, deep anode bed and horizontal wells cathodic protection anode bed are both to meet the requirements of the tank. However, the regional cathodic protection deep well anode bed is more suitable for large number of tanks that applied cathodic protection simultaneously. While, the horizontal well cathodic protection anode bed method are not suitable for a large number of tanks at the same time, because of its large investment, complex construction and so no. In practical applications, it should be based on specific conditions.
