In this paper,a new triazine-based phosphorus charring agent(TBM) have been reported, and synthesized from 1-oxo-4-hydroxymethyl-2,6,7-trioxa-l-phosphabicyclo[2.2.2]-octane(PEPA), diethylenetriamine and cyanuric chloride. And its molecular structure was characterized by FT-IR, 13C-NMR, 31P-NMR and elemental analysis. The result indicated that the molecular structure was consistent with the predicted one. The thermal property was characterized by means of TGA. The TGA results, in nitrogen atmosphere, indicated that its decomposition temperature at loss 5wt% is 294.8℃, the mass residue at 600℃ is 29.77%, The maximum decomposition rate is7.16%/min when the heat decomposition temperature is 412.6℃.Charring agent TBM, combined with MEL-APP(APP coated with melamine) and MCA, were applied to prepare intumescent flame retardant PP(IFR-PP). The flammability properties and mechanical properties of IFR-PP were characterized by limit oxygen index(LOI), vertical burning(UL-94), tensile test and impact test. The results indicated that when the IFR-PP was added with TBM: MEL-APP: MCA as 1.25wt%:20wt%:3.75wt%, it could achieve 31.6% in LOI test, V-1 grade in UL-94 test, which showed a good flame retardant property. But the mechanism properties of all different formulation of IFR-PP were decreased. TGA result indicated that TBM could increase the charring ratio of PP, which could enhance the effectiveness of flame retardant property.A new flame retardant synergist 2,3-dimethyl-2,3-dimethyldiphenylbutane was synthesized from 4-Isopropyltoluene and di-tert-butyl peroxide. Its molecular structure was characterized by FT-IR, 1H-NMR, and elemental analysis. The result indicated that the molecular structure was consistent with the predicted one. The thermal property was characterized by means of TGA. The TGA results, in air atmosphere, indicated that its decomposition temperature at loss 5wt% is 160.5℃.The maximum decomposition rate is 24.33%/min when the decomposition temperature is 211.1℃.2,3-dimethyl-2,3-dimethyldiphenylbutane, combined with Sb2O3 and Tris(2,3-dibromopropyl) isocyanurate(TBC) were applied in flame retardant EVA. The flammability properties and mechanical properties of IFR-PP were characterized by Limit oxygen index(LOI), vertical burning(UL-94), tensile test and impact test. The results indicated that when the flame retardant EVA was added with TBC: Sb2O3: 2,3-dimethyl-2,3-dimethyldiphenylbutane=10wt%:5wt%:0.8%, it could achieve 31.9% in LOI test, V-2 grade in UL-94 test, which showed a certain fire retardant property.Each formula has little impact on the mechanical properties of the material. TGA result indicated that 2,3-dimethyl-2,3-dimethyldiphenylbutane could reduce the maximum decomposition rate of EVA, which could enhance the effectiveness of flame retardant.
