It is clear that access to economically viable renewable energy sources is essential for the development of a sustainable society. Solar energy converting has attracted considerable attention in recent years as it can cover the substantial future energy consume with no environmental pollution. Dye-sensitized solar cells (DSCs), appear to be a highly promising and cost-effective alternative for the photovoltaic. Development of novel and efficient photosensitizer, one of the crucial parts in dye-sensitized solar cells, is of great importance for the improvement of the overall power conversion efficiency1. Application of Schiff Base metal complexes in DSCsIn this thesis, novel Schiff Base metal complexes have been synthesized, characterized and applied to DSCs. The effects of the different central metal, different anchoring groups and different substituent group on the performance of the sensitizer in DSCs were investigated.2. Application of Schiff Base metal complexes in the synthesis of cyclic carbonatesCarbon dioxide is one of the greenhouse gases and increasing attention have achieved in the field of transformation of carbon dioxide. New bifunctional catalysts have been synthesized and characterized. Carbon dioxide and epoxides could be converted to corresponding cyclic carbonate in high yield under mild conditions by the Schiff Base metal complexes.
