With the increasingly serious energy and environmental problems,growing attention has been paid to wind power, an important form ofrenewable energy. At present, construction of wind power facilities isdeveloping rapidly in China, however, the main connection mode designationof wind farm is generally accorded to standard of thermal power plant, sinceno relevant regulation has been made. Obviously, different connection modesand different types of wind generator will affect the operation mode of anintegrated wind farm.Based on the three wind farms of Nanhui district in Shanghai, thefollowing respects of research is developed in this paper. Firstly, not onlycomparison of domestic and foreign wind power development is made, butalso research status and the necessity of developing wind power are stated.Then the basic principle of wind generator of different types is considered andreasons for double-fed variable speed wind turbine adopted in Nanhui districtare proposed. After that, the main connection modes of the wind farm are detailedly elaborated and the operation modes of the three wind farms areanalyzed and compared in reliability, flexibility and economy. What’s more,the paper studies typical operation problems in wind farm, such asparalleling or off, low voltage ride-through capability and so on. Finally,suggestion about the designation of wind farm is proposed at last.
