Riveted joint of Aluminium Alloy is extensively used in aviation structures because of its lowcost, upstanding mechanical capability and environment adaptability. Fretting in riveted joint willinduce a reduction of fatigue strength, have a great effect on reliability and security of furnishmentand ultimately lead to catastrophic consequence. Therefore, research on fretting damage of simulationand experimentation of riveted materials has important theoretics and engineering significance. In basic theories study of fretting tribology, the contact mechanics of cylinder-plate and flatcontact pair are studied with the theory of fretting map. The contact stress, shear displacement ofcylinder-plate contact and the distributing law of the contact stress of flat contact are obtained. In experimentation study and fretting wear parameters calculation, the calculation model offretting wear of cylinder-plate contact is deduced according to the theory of Archard equation. Thetrend of the surface wear profile and some interrelated wear parameters are predicted, which achievethe numeral simulation of wear state of the contact model. In simulation of fretting damage, the model of cylinder-plate contact is constructed with thefinite element software ANSYS Workbench. The influences of the main parameters like vertical pre-ssure, amplitude of slip and frictional coefficient on fretting damage characteristics are analyzed.Meanwhile, the distribution of the contact stress and the danger zone of this model are studied. Theresults show that there is little difference between simulation and test.In simulation of fretting damage characteristics of riveted joint, the fretting modality of thecontact place is observed according to the fatige test of the joint. The stress state of the joint model iscalculated, the factors to the influence of stress distribution of the components, such as array location, friction coefficient, cyclic loading, interference fit are analyzed, and the probable position of theinitation of fretting crack is predicted. The results provide the theoretical basis for the design againstfretting damage of riveted joint.
