| Water resource and energy are the indispensable resource for both social and economicdevelopment. The domestic maldistribution of water resource and deficiency of energy hasbeen increased the contradiction between supply and demand, which significantly restricts thesustainable development of domestic urbanization and the whole society. The efficiency usageof water resource and energy has been the major research project for today and importantlytaken further. As household water usage incidentally raises relevant energy consumption, theresearch and analysis of household water using preference, amount and regularity are essentialto improve individuals’ understanding of the importance of the deduction of extra energyconsumption, which raised by the whole unban water system. The comparison of a range ofdifferent heating water systems from different regions enable to build a general concept ofhousehold consumption of water and energy, which generate major factors for furtherdiscussion.This paper aims to contribute to enhance the management of urban water resourcedemand, therefore, it will facilitate urban resource efficiency and sustainable development,promote the scientific management of urban water resource system. As a significantconsequence, it is able to raise people’s awareness of saving water and other energy.This paper is including urban household water usage cases based on Lanzhou. Throughthe559records of household water usage constant test on typical households, the typicalapproach of case study enables to generate the representative structure of household waterusage, preference of water consumption from different seasons, individual amount of waterusage and related energy consumption. Moreover,863research questionnaires have beenconducted and it indicates the major factors, which have impacts on household water usageand energy consumption. As a result, this paper provides a set of recommendations for theenergy saving while urban water consumption.Based on the whole process of research and analyze, several finding can be concluded.Generally, urban citizen water usage in Lanzhou city on average represents89.22L per personper day. It is mainly including personal care (26.86%), shower (25.08%), toiletflushing(19.83%), cooking (10.73%), clothes washing (9.83%), drinking (4.18%), hygieneand other water consumption (3.50%). Shower represents45.56%of house household waterconsumption in Lanzhou, drinking and personal care correspondingly presents21.83%and 20.56%. Another key finding is the major factors, which influence individual household waterconsumption, including the size of population, residence types, income levels, education,water devices, consciousness of saving water and reference of water usage.The mean value ofhousehold hydroenergy intensity in Lanzhou is13.76kWh/m3. According to the urbanhousehold water usage in Lanzhou during2011, one conclusion can be found that householdwater percentage of energy consumption is1.39×109kWh. We can receive the conclusion thatthe factors that affect household hydroenergy intensity are bathing frequency per week, thehighest educational level of the members, family size, average household monthly income,family housing situation〠average monthly water and electricity consumption and so on byestablishing the linear analysis and econometric model.
