Vibration problem of footbridges is long standing. But not many studies onhuman-induced vibration and pedestrian comfort criteria have taken place until theexcessive resonance of the London Millennium Bridge. With the development of civilengineering technology, bridge structures of less mass, larger spans, and lower dampingbecome more and more, which convenience people’s trip, beautifying the landscape ofthe city, but also initiate serious human-induced vibration problem. A lot of scientificresearch achievements on human-induced vibration were achieved at home and abroadrecently, many of them were applied in latest standards of some countries, by whichsocial and economic benefits are gained. With the development of civil engineering andthe increasing of footbridge construction, the human-induced vibration of footbridge isbecome a very important problem, which should be research carefully to apply theexisting research achievements and advanced experience of foreign standard to thefootbridges designing of our country. Currently, most domestic studies concentrate onthe calculation theories of human-induced vibration and calculating the vibrationapplying foreign standards. Few studies involved the vibration experiments result ofreal footbridges, due to troubles in knowing applicable conditions of these theories andcalculation method to domestic footbridges. Therefore, the calculation method of thehuman-induced vibration on footbridges, the test method of human-induced vibrationon footbridges and the testing of human-induced vibration on real footbridge areresearched in this thesis. The main contents of the research include:1. Modelling a footbridge with finite element method in ANSYS software.Calculating the human-induced vibration response of footbridge with several differentmethods.2. Testing the vibration response of footbridge under the pedestrian walking bysingle-person and multi-person walking test. Comparing the vibration response testresult with the calculation value, verifying the practicability of walking test method andevaluating the pedestrian comfort feeling under different vibration acceleration.3. Testing the vibration response of Footbridge under routine use. Comparing theresult with the calculation value. Evaluating the applicability of the calculation theoriesand methods.
