Along with the success of intelligent substation pilot’s promoting, the IEC61850standard system, which is becoming the only standard of substation automation system,changed the closed structure of modern substation automation system, and made the systemopening and standard. the IEC61850standard is tested step by step during "Elevenfive",which shows that the current standard IEC60870gradually will upgrade to IEC61850standards,as a result, IEC61850standards is becoming the only standard of seamlesscommu-nication of power system.This paper developed a transformer protection device completely because of IEC61850protocol system, that uses the method of object modeling represent the internally visiblebehavior of transformers, so that, the transformer has an abstracted model essencialy.Theprotocol has so many characteristics as that modeling oriented the device, self description,abstraction of the communication service interface and communication protocol specificindependent, that it uses digital semaphore to transfer simulate transport unit,which couldcancel a large number of cable, and uses IEC61850-9-1(point to point), IEC61850-9-2(point to multipoint) correspondence specification and the digital signal processing, thereforethe connection between devices is greatly reduced and the reliability.is improved.In order to content satified the huge system of IEC61850protocol, the device sampledby a high performance processor named POWERPC8377, communicated by optical port andthe data of correspondingly processing,and completed the sequential logic inside by FPGA.The CPU plug behand the device integrated four optical ethernet ports and2ethernet portthat interfaces intelligent primary equipment process layer, and the GPS interface signal port.The four optical ethernet ports could support IEC61850-9-2communication protocol, theother two could support IEC61850communication protocol,which also could be accustomedto MMS communication and download. In a word,this transformer protection deviceenormously improved the communication ability and dependability and operationity.
