When fault occurs in power grid, the rapid identification and accurate location of fault is ofvital significance to ensure the transient stability of power system. The research on grid faultlocation method has been the hotspot and difficulty spot of both at home and abroad, being anissue of major technical and economic significance. Under the background of the currentbuilding the smart grid in our country, the wide application of WAMS in power system has openedup a new path for fault location.This thesis first makes a deep analysis and discussion on PMU configuration scheme withinthe power system from the observability of entire network node, and selects the relevant algorithmto optimize the preset plan. Then, the thesis studies to determine the fault section by traversalalgorithm method, and constructs fault recognition mathematical function model and the relatedconstraints based on the movement situation of breakers and protections. Finally, the thesis putsforward a fault location synchronization algorithm based on PMU measurement data, and putsforward a new kind of hybrid information positioning algorithm introducing the advantages offault location method using travelling wave which fully integrates redundant information andusing different weights to modify multiple source localization results, and proves the accuracy androbustness through the PSCAD/EMTDC simulation.
