With the increase of car ownership, energy crisis and environment pollution arethe main problems that we are facing. Biodiesel and alcohol fuel has widely attentionand application because of its characteristics such as renewable and wide source.Through the research of the spray and combustion characteristics of biodiesel andalcohol fuel, the text provide the relative theory and technology support of itsapplication. The common rail fuel spray test bench is built based on the EFS fuel singleinjection measuring instrument driver module, the synchronous operation of theinjector and the high speed camera controlled by the Freescale MC9S12DG128SCMto take pictures of the fuel spray process synchronously. The experiment mainlystudied the blending ratio, environmental ambient pressure and injection pressure onthe influence of the mixed fuel spray characteristics. The engine experiment wascarried on a turbocharged intercooled electronically controlled high pressure commonrail diesel engine with n-butanol/diesel blends. The fuel combustion and emissioncharacteristics were compared and analyzed.Firstly, the results of the spray experiment show that, at the same injectionpressure, as the increase of ambient pressure, the spray cone angle of the same volumeof fuel increases gradually, the spray penetration and the spray area decreases; underthe same ambient pressure, the spray penetration, spray cone angle and spray areaincrease gradually with the increasing injection pressure, but when the injectionpressure increases enough, the parameters are roughly the same; and the parametersbasically all increase with the adding of n-butanol.Secondly, the results of the spray experiment show that, when a certain amount ofn-butanol added in the mixed fuel, with the increasing of the acidic oil, the spray coneangle decreases, the spray penetration and spray area decrease firstly and then increase.Thirdly, the results of the engine experiment show that with the adding of n- butanol, the maximum combustion pressure gradually increases and the maximum heatrelease rate gradually reduces; compared with diesel, CO emissions of the blends areslightly lower and decrease with the increasing load; HC emissions of the mixture fuelare higher and decrease first then increase with the increasing load; at2000r/min, NOxemissions of the blends are a little lower than the pure diesel in small loads but higherin other loads, and increase with the adding of the load.
