Design and resource optimization has been one of the most active areas ofresearch in recent years. Structure optimization design can significantly improveefficiency and quality of production, which is crucial in current competitive globalmarket. Biologically-inspired optimization techniques such as genetic algorithms(GAs) and particle swarm optimization have been among the most popularoptimization techniques.In this dissertation, based on the intelligent optimization algorithm and finiteelement method, gradient negative poisson’s ratio structure was proposed andoptimized. The aim of this dissertation is to design the NPR strcture that minimizemass under torque loading. Genetic algorithm and particle swarm algorithm is usedand two types of the gradient negative poisson’s ratio structure, NPR structure withgradient thickness of wall and gradient internal cell angle was considered.Shear modulus of the negative poisson’s ratio structure was deduced. Thein-plane shear modulus of the negative poisson’s ratio structure was derived byusing Gibson formula and Euler beam theory and the range of out-of-plane shearmodulus was deduced by energy method.Combined with intelligent optimization algorithm (genetic algorithm andparticle swarm optimization algorithm) and comercial finite element code, gradientnegative poisson’s ratio plate structure was optimized. The optimization ofrectangular NPR plate under torque loading was discussed in chapter3and4.Optimized negative poisson’s ratio structure which with gradient thickness of walland gradient angle of internal cell angle was obtained.The optimization for wing shape with gtadient NPR core was considered inchapter5. The optimal structural parameters scheme was obtained. Compared withoriginal structure, the optimal structure reduced the weight significantly.
