An Empirical Study On How Farming Radius Could Optimize Rural Residential Layout

Village relocation planning is an important part of building a new socialistcountryside. With the application of this planning, farming radius measured by distanceor time has changed and it affects farmers’ agricultural interests. So how to apply villagerelocation planning to achieve agglomeration effects while insuring famers’ agriculturalinterests is a problem. Generally speaking, research on this problem has a veryimportant significance.This paper is made of four parts: the first, analyzing the era background andtheoretical background of village relocation planning; the second, analyzing fiverestricting factors about farming radius how to influence rural residential layout; thethird, showing how to calculate rational farming radius; the fourth, taking ChongqingQijiang grandfather mountain green agriculture leisure park planning and SichuanProvince Lushan County Siyan ecological agriculture demonstration garden planning asan example to prove the rationality of calculation.The main results are the following:First，Farming radius can be one research method for planning rural residentiallayout.Second，Five restricting factors about farming radius influence the scope of farmingradius. The first point is that farming radius shows an increasing trend when local shapechanges from the plains to the hills; the second point is that the more developed trafficcondition is, the larger the farming radius range is; the third point is that themotorization rate is increasing with the addition of farming radius; the fourth point isthat the farming radius increases when the agricultural mechanization rate rises; the fifthpoint is that the farming radius increases if the agricultural land has more intensivelayout and lower fragmentation.Third，Five restricting factors about farming radius can be quantified. Quantify ofthe five restricting factors has two types. The first type is correction indicator forcorrecting farming radius two-dimensional surface expression. This indicator includesdigital terrain index which measures topography and reclamation index which measuresrural residential layout. The second type is reference indicator for offering the limitreference value. This indicator includes transportation accessibility degree, motorizationrate and mechanized farming level. Forth，The calculation of farming radius mainly can be divided into eight steps.Fifth，It’s necessary to prove that how to use farming radius rationally according toempirical proves. Particularly, it’s inappropriate that rural settlements are imploded inseveral medium or large villages. In this situation, rational farming radius should beapplied to control rural settlements’ scope.All in all, it’s universal to use farming radius to optimize the layout of ruralsettlements. Given that this paper just can cite limited examples, it’s necessary to usemore examples in future researches and optimize the methods of calculating,quantifying and correcting constantly.
