The main vertical load-bearing component of RC frame structure is the structurecolumn. Under the seismic effect, the bearing capacity of structural column isinfluenced by two important factors, the first one is the buckling of longitudinalreinforcement; and the second is the deformation performance of the plastic hinge. The main researching work and conclusions of this paper:①4cantilever columns have been tested on with low cyclic load. The impact ofdifferent axial compression ratio and stirrup spacing on the seismic performance isinvestigated.②The largest buckling deflection of longitudinal reinforcement, and the straindifference between the two sides of the longitudinal reinforcement which parallel (orperpendicular) to the horizontal force were measured. The the nominal onset time ofbuckling of longitudinal reinforcement has been found. The critical buckling conditionof longitudinal reinforcement with150mm free length which summarized by ZhangJiqing[2]is found to be not completely suitable for the longitudinal reinforcement inthe specimen.③The flexural deformation, shear deformation and the bond-slip of the plastichinge area are measured. The horizontal force-flexure rotation curve, the horizontalforce-angle of shear curve, the horizontal force-the fixed end rotation hysteresis curveare given out, and the contribution of these three kinds of deformation on the lateralvertex is analyzed. A new algorithm of shearing deformation is put forward and theshortage of the new algorithm is analyzed through examples.④In OpenSees, with (or without) the consideration of longitudinal reinforcementbuckling and fatigue damage, numerical simulation analysis of each horizontalforce-lateral vertex curve has been done. The results of numerical simulation analysisand the experiments are compared, and it is proved that buckling of longitudinalreinforcement and the fatigue damage could not be ignored because of their greatinfluence on the bearing capacity of the specimens.
