In recent years,the construction of the highway tunnel is in its utmost luxuriance inour country. However, the tunnel diseases are also serious at smie time which have caught theattention of engineer experts and the technical personnel. Especially the disease of tunnellining,a representation of all diseases, has been studied in various of aspects. Due to sometunnel diseases uneasy to fund with eyes, it will be threatening and even will threaten to thesafety of the vehicles and pedestrians. So it is particularly important to acquaintance with thediseases in the early time. According to particularity of the tunnel, NDT method has becomeone of the most common detection method. And recently, geologic radar method is popul虹tothe engineering and technical persons for its characteristics. For example, it is high detectionspeed, low cost, lightweight portable, high resolution and no harm to the detected object. Inour country, the application and the technology of geological radar is not mature. What’s more,the application of geological radar in detecting tunnel lining diseases exists some problems inthe practical engineering now. For example, the radar detection section is uneasy to identifyaccurately for some factors.In the paper, the main tunnel lining damages and the common nondestructive testingmethods are presented,mid the application of geological radar method in tunnel liningdetection is studied emphatically. Secondly, the model experiment of disease of tunnel liningis made for testing with the geological radar. And research the geological radar detectionsection for the performance characteristics of common tunnel lining diseases. In the testing,some diseases like as the void, empty, cracks, drainage are mainly considered in thelining,and double-layer rebar, single-layer rebar, unmatched rebar are respectively setted inthe tunnel lining. Compared the geological mdar detection section and the arrangement of theactual diseases, it can be concluded that geological radar detection is impressible to steel, andthe accuracy is also related to the depth of the location of the diseases,the material propertiesof different media, and the size of the diseases. Thirdly, based on the time domain finitedifference principle, forward numerical simulation is done to some typical diseases like thelining empty and void with the GPRMAX2D softw^e, and the simulation of ground penetrating radar profile is gotten through the Matlab with strong drawing ability. And theanalysis of the forward numerical simulation section will provides further reference forgeological radar detection identification on the disease sections of tunnel lining.Based on the full understanding of geological radar detection sections for the commontunnel lining diseases, the paper finally tests tunnel lining quality of mount Yanlie tunnel ofJiujing highway with the geological radar,and the results are satisfactory.
