Researchers pay more and more attention to concrete reinforcement deep beam and use it as acommon structural member because of its outstanding mechanical performance. Then plentyof national and international researchers did deep research on deep beam. However, thecommon analysis results gained from normal beam can not be applied in the research sincedeep beam has a complicated mechanical system and does not fit flat section assumption. Themethod our national concrete standard use relies on the experienced function coming fromlots of experimental data since the lack of knowledge about the mechanical theory of deepbeam. In practice, this method can perfectly satisfies safety requirement. But, it also has manydisadvantages in economy. Therefore, this paper presents a point of view that usingstrut-and-tie model to design the concrete reinforcement deep beam. STM model method, compared with experience method, is more acceptable cause it can greatly explain how thestress distributed in the deep beam. This paper did the following jobs in the view of opinionabove:1. This paper explained STM model method contained in USA concrete standard ACI318-11、AU concrete standard AS3600and Euro concrete standard EN1991-1-1respectively.2. Obtained functions in the process of designing deep beam by using three kinds of STMmodel method in three standards. And came to the conclusion that those functions basicallyhave the same form and the differences mainly come from coefficient.3. Using those functions to calculate twenty deep beams. In the calculation, span-depth ratioand load magnitude are two major variates. Then have a conclusion that the using STM modelcan lead to less amount of steel usage. Despite that, we also found out span-depth ratio canaffect reinforcement ration between those four methods.4. By using finite element software ABAQUS, we analyzed deep beams calculated above toget some results to compare. Then came to an opinion that the experience method is farconservative than STM model method. In other words, STM model method is more economicand reasonable.
