The flywheel energy storage is a novel energy storage device which can realize energyconversion between mechanical energy and electric energy. The principle is that theflywheel storage system stores energy in the form of kinetic energy by revolving flywheelin high speed which driven by motor with power grid, and releases energy when energylacks urgently. As the flywheel motor design is a key part of the flywheel energy storage,the design of the motor, electromagnetic fields, loss, temperature field will be analyzeddeeply in this dissertation.Firstly, structure type, design feature and research status of high speed permanentmachines are summarized. Talking the structure design of stator, electromagnetic andstructure designs of rotor, protection of permanent magnets and so on. According to thegiven design goals of130kW,31500rpm, write the motor design program with Matlab. Atthe same time, design a high speed permanent magnet synchronous motor and the designlist is given. ANSOFT, the finite design element software, is used to calculate severalparameters (pole-arc coefficient, no-load magnetic flux leakage coefficient). Determinehigh speed permanent magnet synchronous motor with2poles for flywheel energy storage.Secondly, according to the electromagnetic field theory, the two-dimensional fieldanalysis is carried out on the motor with field-circuit coupling finite element method, andthen the electromagnetic field of the motor with three different magnetization areconcluded. Results show that the Halbach magnetization is most suitable for high speedpermanent magnet synchronous motor in this paper.Finally, through careful research and calculated, the permanent magnet motor ofHalbach magnetization, whose stator loss, rotor loss and wind friction loss and so on hasbeen carried out. At the same time, axial flow fan cooling scheme is proposed, and carry onthe design of axial flow fan. In the end, make the calculated loss as heat source, and thestator and rotor temperature field are analyzed respectively by using the finite elementsoftware ANSYS to verify the effectiveness of the cooling scheme.
