The wind energy becomes the one of the world’s fastest growing energy because of its advantages of cleanness, low cost and inexhaustible nearly10years, moreover, wind power, as a clean and industrial potential energy, has become an important part of the global energy. However, the features which are low energy density and randomness, instability and uneven distribution have brought many problems for the use of wind energy. As a result, researching the MPPT algorithm and improving the wind energy conversion rate of wind power conversion system is particularly important.In order to implement the MPPT algorithm more accurately and make the electric energy obtained finally achieve the maximum, the paper mainly goes ahead from two sides to analyze and achieve. Firstly it samples the wanted data (wind speed, torque, rotate speed, power etc.) from the commonly used vertical axis wind turbines, such as Savonius rotor, three-hastate rotor etc, and figures out the maximum power in every different wind speed and various conditions of working according these data; then according to the calculated data with C#language in Visio Studio2010offline programming to achieve MPPT algorithm. The main conclusions are gotten as the following:1Early data acquisition has a great influence on the MPPT algorithm and those results impact the final output power and work efficiency directly.2The experimental results show that the maximum power point is always corresponding to an optimum rotate speed under certain wind speed, and tracing or calculating the optimum rotate speed-power point can make the electric energy maximum which the wind energy transforms.3The finally output results from MPPT algorithm consistent with the experimental results.Because the data which MPPT algorithm uses come from Savonius rotor, the running results using MPPT algorithm in this paper all use this rotor as an example to illustrate. But the rotor is the traditional one of vertical wind turbines, only we can complete the data collection of certain vertical wind turbines, this algorithm can also be generalized to other kinds of vertical wind turbines.
