Signal and power Cables, wires are wildly used in various electromechanicalproducts, which’s layout affects the functionality and reliability of the productsignificantly. Currently, the layout design, assembly process planning, capabilitytest and other cable harness related work in China heavily depend on physicalmock-up and workers’ knowledge. The techniques and tools employed are notsupportive enough. In this thesis, the methods and techniques for cable harnessdigital layout design and assembly simulation in complex product development arestudied.The main researches carried out are summarized as follows.(1) The previous work on cable harness digital layout design, assemblysimulation and flexible body modeling are surveyed. The remaining problems areanalyzed and the objective of the research is presented. Then the main contents andorganization of the thesis are introduced.(2) The cable harness digital modeling method is studied. After analyzing thedemand and features of cable harness digital modeling, the model and modelingprocess are presented. A digital reprehensive model of cable harness with topologyas its skeleton is presented. The process and procedures of virtual bod y modelingare introduced, and the method of obtaining information among each part of thedigital cable model in such a process is also presented.(3) Cable harness digital layout design technology is studied. The main taskson cable layout design are analyzed and an overall process which combinesinteractive with computational algorithm is proposed. The concept and constructionof the product digital mock-up are introduced, and the interactive layout designmethod is discussed. A creeper-growing-like sampling based path planningalgorithm for cable route searching is proposed, which is developed from ideas ofRapidly-exploring Ramdon Tree (RRT) and Probabilistic Road-Map (PRM). Thestrategies and techniques employed in the algorithm are discussed in detail. Finallythe output formats of the digital layout design result are introduced, and theconstruction of the cable harness flat graph is introduced.(4) Based on the theories and technologies proposed, some typical scenariosare tested to illustrate its capability and validate the theories and technologies.
