Research on orbit dynamics is always hot even since the establishment ofNewton’s gravity law. Its every revolution would largely promote thedevelopment of space technology and affect the implement of some practicalprojects, like deep space exploration, manned spacecraft and space defense. Thispaper focuses on quaternion-based relative motion dynamics modeling and itsapplications.Firstly, we propose two sets of quaternion-based new orbital elements andtheir dynamics models, correspondingly. One is the dynamics model in the Earth-fixed coordinate system. The other one is relative motion dynamics model. Thesetwo models are compared with commonly used position and velocity elementsmodel and simulation results show that the computation efficiency of new modelswill be2~3times than traditional elements.Secondly, the quaternion-based relative motion dynamics model is used toanalyze two conditions for stable satellite company fly---energy and inclinationcondition. The gradient of two conditions to new set of elements is derived, which can indicate sensibility of conditions to different elements and is provedby simulation. Then the quaternion-based relative motion model is used to get the twoimpulses in space rendezvous. The analytical solution of C-W equations is usedto offer initial impulse and then considering J2perturbation and atmosphericresistance, we use model above to correct the initial impulse to make it morepractical. Finally the model above is again used to design how to circumvent enemyspacecraft. Similarly, according to solution of C-W equations, we provide themethod to get initial optimal direction and pick action moment and the method isproved by simulation. Then under the disturbance of J2and atmosphereresistance, the new model is used to correct above initial result to make the resultmore practical in reality.
