Along with the rapid development of the mutually combined information andelectronic technology, the in-vehicle information system technology such as vehiclenavigation and location is widely used in automobile industry in recent years. Thein-vehicle information system market expands rapidly in China, which providesconvenience for car users but also brings some traffic security problems. It is veryimportant of the research on the negative impact of in-vehicle information systemdistraction on driving performance as well as determination the influence way oftraffic accidents caused by it, which is of great significance for reducing the numberof traffic accidents caused by driver distraction, improving the level of road trafficsafety and promoting the development of in-vehicle information technology.This paper referenced some domestic and overseas research results of drivingsecondary tasks and driver distraction, and analyzed the in-vehicle informationsystem distraction characteristic. Then it determines the indicator to accuratelymeasure the driving performance under distraction condition. Through analysis theinfluence of in-vehicle information system on driving performance in the aspect ofvehicle control and safety, besides the survey on drivers, this paper studies thedrivers’ common distraction representation when they operate the in-vehicleinformation system. Finally it determines the driving performance indicator appliedto the condition of operate the in-vehicle information equipment which mainlycontains travel speed, acceleration, transverse displacement, steering wheel angle,steering wheel rotate speed, incident detectivity, etc. And these indicators all belongto the vehicle control and safety indicators.In addition, with these indicators determined above, combined experimentequipment and environment, this paper designs the driving performance impactexperiment and its steps. It gains the driving performance data under distractioncondition through these experiments then screening and disposing the data. Afterthat, the driver’s change rule of vehicle transverse control indicator, vertical controlindicator and incident detectivity under different operation on in-vehicle informationsystem equipment is analyzed. With significance analysis, the effectiveness ofdriving performance indicators is verified. At last, based on the driving performanceindicator data under different operation, the driver distraction SVM judging model isestablished and verified.According to in-vehicle information system distraction and drivingperformance impact characteristic, combined the present situation of China, thispaper provides some driver distraction countermeasure in the aspects of traffic laws and regulations, driver education and cultivate and the in-vehicle informationsystem human-computer interaction interface operation.
