The situation of lubrication in gear meshing process has significantly influence on gearfailure and the vibration and noise of gear. The traditional research method is based onempirical formula which is concluded from experiment data. This method can meet the needsof strength design. Along with the increasing of gear failure and vibration and noise index intransmission systems, the traditional vulgar design method cannot meet the needs of moderngear design. So, it is necessary to develop an in-depth research on Elasto-Hydrodynamiclubrication process in timing gear of the marine diesel machine. Focusing on this point, thefollowing works has been done in this paper:1. Based on Elasto-Hydrodynamic lubrication theory, using multilevel method, line contactsElasto-Hydrodynamic lubrication is researched. Overall considering the effect of velocityparameter, load parameter and material properties on the distribution of oil slick thicknessand pressure, the feature of line contacts Elasto-Hydrodynamic lubrication is acquired.2. Based on the principle of gear connection and the basic property of involute gear, theprocess of gear connection is analyzed. Using the equivalent model of Elasto-Hydrodynamiclubrication, the process of gear connection is studied according to different parameters. Thenecessary and sufficient conditions for gear connection are acquired. The research on the keypoint of gear connection process and the lubrication state of gear at the key point is conducted.An analysis on the influence of parameters on the equivalent model of gear connectionprocess is conducted.3. On the basis of the property of line contact Elasto-Hydrodynamic lubrication state and theanalysis of gear connection, the research on the lubrication state of involute gear transmissionprocess is conducted. Oil film pressure distribution, oil film thickness distribution and maxfilm pressure at five critical points in gear connection process is calculated out. Usingdynamic analysis method for reference, the lubrication of the whole gear transmission processis first simulated.4. On account of the analysis of line contacts Elasto-Hydrodynamic lubrication and theanalysis of gear connection process, numerical simulation on the lubrication state of a marineinternal combustion engine timing gear is conducted. The state of lubrication is discussed andthe gear in bad lubrication state is optimal designed.
