With the rapid development of city construction, more and more excavations are used. In addition to the deep excavation required in the high-rise building construction, some underground pipelines, underground pipeline trench, subway construction and other operations need small foundation pit excavation. In these excavation which, faced with a large number of underground pipelines, dense surrounding buildings and the complex stratigraphy, it makes the selection of support method is becoming increasingly important. Steel sheet pile has a special lock mouth forms and their own ability, which make the advantages of lightweight and high strength, water-proof and seepage-proof, high loading capacity, strong durability, construction, high efficiency, small impact on the environment, less land occupation, reusability, etc. With these advantages, steel sheet pile is very suitable for small excavation as a temporary project and seepage-proof, make its have high carrying capacity, light weight, and it has also become best choice for small excavation Therefore, the study of support design method of steel sheet pile in small excavation has important practical significance and good economic benefits.The main contents and conclusions in this paper are as follows:1. The development of steel piles is introduced, including construction technology, applications and computational theory. Several commonly used methods for calculating are made a key comparative analysis. Steel sheet pile design process for small excavation is summed, which is based on elastic foundation beam method, as Theoretical basis for the preparation of the program.2. The calculation program of steel sheet pile design for small excavation is prepared using VB language in the application platform of Visual Studio2010. The program can design steel sheet pile retaining structure for small excavation respectively using equivalent beam method and the elastic foundation beam method. It also can output results of the internal force and deformation of steel sheet pile retaining structure supporting structure, and check the stability, including the intensity, basal heave and anti-piping.3. A practical engineering case is used in this paper. Use the program to design cantilever steel piles and steel sheet piles of single pole for this case. According to the design results, create sheet pile model for numerical simulation by ANSYS, using finite element method based on the vertical elastic foundation beam method. Results of the program and ANSYS numerical simulation are compared to verify the availability of the program.4. By comparing the results of the equivalent beam method and the elastic foundation beam method, we know that the result of the elastic foundation beam method is closer to the measured values, and we can get any depth internal forces and displacements of steel sheet pile using this method.5. By comparing results of the program and ANSYS numerical simulation, we know that the program is accuracy and reliability, and we can use it repeatedly to optimize the design of steel sheet pile retaining.
