In practical engineering, safety of building structures is the most important issuein structural design. Unreasonable structural design may cause the occurrence ofevents of progressive collapse, and the progressive collapse events will cause seriousloss of life and property. How to ensure all types of buildings and componentssuffered accidental loads still work effectively has become an important and realistictopics to engineers and technical personnel.In recent years, Fiber Reinforced Polymer or Plastic,which is referred to as FRP,is widely used in reinforcement for concrete structures and other structures.Development of FRP application in aspects of infrastructure reinforcement, repair andreconstruction is rapid, for its advantages such as lightweight, high strength,corrosion resistance, convenient construction, and so on.In the paper, we experiment by anchoring the CFRP laminates in reinforcedconcrete frame, to make the prevention of progressive collapse of reinforced concreteframe. And in the experiment, the column to be removed were replaced by concreteblocks which were beaten by hydrogen gun to simulate its failure.After the failure ofthe column, the force that was withstood by this column transferred to the surroundingcolumns and CFRP laminates, and the structure did not collapse during the experiment.The experimental results show that CFRP laminates can availably cushion the impactof the column due to transient loads generated by sudden failure of the column, so thatthe RC frame can achieve another equilibrium state in a very short period of time.Wecan conclude the CFRP laminates play an important role in improving theperformance of the structure to resist progressive collapse.Meanwhile, a finite element analysis using software SAP2000is conducted toprovide insight understanding and the comparison with the test results. After thefailure of column A2,the frame stay in linear elastic stage, whereas after the failure ofcolumn A3, there are local plastic hinge.But overall,the finite element analysis isconsistent with the experimental results.To sum up, we can conclude that the frame structure reinforced with CFRPlaminates has good anti-collapsed performance from the experimental results and thefinite element analysis. The CFRP laminates can effectively delay the generation ofthe plastic hinge,so that they can significantly help the RC frame to resist progressive collapse.
