Ground foundation settlement analysis and calculation has been the importantbasis of ground foundation reinforcement and design, also is one of the importanttopics in the study of soil mechanics. Layer-wise summation analysis method is one ofthe most famous method that used in the process of ground foundation settlementanalysis and calculation, and the mechanical mechanism of different layer-wisesummation analysis methods is different. Now, the layer-wise summation methodsbased on the constitutive model has got widespread attention. As one of the abovemethods, the layer-wise summation method based on linear elastic constitutive modelhas been commonly used because of the characteristic of requiring less parameters.Therefore, on the basis of the layer-wise summation method, considering thecharacteristics of the porosity of the soil from microscopic study, this paper will putforward a new method of ground foundation settlement analysis, which based on thelinear elastic constitutive model. The major contests and results are as follo ws:First of all, considering the stress analysis and micro deformation of porousmedium like ground soil, we formed an analysis model that reflect the relationshipbetween the apparent mechanical parameters of the porous media and the actualmechanical parameters of the particle skeleton. On the basis of above analysis model,introducing the idea of step-loading, a model reflecting the influence of additionalstress and initial stress to porous medium.Then, according to the idea of layer-wise summation, based on the rule of thechange of the porous medium’s mechanical parameters under the additional stress andthe initial stress, we put forward a improved layer-wise summation method reflectingthe characteristics of nonlinear deformation of ground soil’s mechanical parameters.At the same time, an improved layer-wise summation method to calculate settlementof composite ground with discrete material pile under rigid foundation proposeddeformation of piles and soil. These methods not only reflect the charac teristics ofnonlinear mechanical parameters of porous media, but also avoid using theconsolidation test curve to calculate the ground foundation settlement.Finally, by the calculation and analysis of three engineering examples, comparedwith measured values and calculation results of other existing methods, we can verifythe feasibility and rationality of two above improved layer-wise summation analysis method.
