| Since ancient times, Chinese architects have been positioned in low social status, just been token as the "Carpenter" artists work for the government or personal. Moreover, suffered together with lower education, making Chinese architectural artistic achievements have less been recorded, let alone been documented in research results. In the late Qing Dynasty, coastal cities came into contact with western architecture and professional architects. And their attitude changed from conflict to acceptance. But they have ignored an important problem which is how to reform Chinese local architectural to meet the needs of modern times. Most of them ether blindly advocated Western architectural styles, or doggedly stuck to traditional architectural style, and less of them tried to do some critical improvements. Liu Ji-piao was just one of the people who made tentative attempts of transiting Chinese local modern architecture not only in theory but also in practice. Based on this background, this paper systematically teased out Liu Ji-piao’s architectural ideas and commented his architectural style though the method of scene investigation to provide some inspirations for Chinese contemporary architectural ideas and styles. |
