With the continuous development of economy and society, people pay more attention to the power system quality and reliability of power supply. Distribution and monitoring automation system increasingly show its importance. Main work of this dissertation are as follows:1. Summarize the research development of power supply distribution and monitoring automation system in different periods, and point out some existing problems.2. Based on the characteristics and requirements of power distribution and monitoring automation system, this article analysis the application scope of modern communication technology, especially the GPRS technology.3. Analysis the functional and design requirements changes of monitoring system terminal in the process of power distribution informationize. The embedded technology was applied in monitoring terminal equipment, we build a hardware platform based on ARM processor and discuss the external circuit design. In accordance with the modular design ideology, the software functional design of terminal system was made.4. Consider the VPN based on GPRS network as networking manner for the monitoring system to ensure fast data transfer, low cost and data security.5. Based on the analysis of data processing and functional design principle of monitoring center, we choose Client/Server as structure of the system, SQL Server2000as database, Windows XP as operating system for the system environment, Borland C++Builder as development tool of human computer interface of monitoring center.
