Isolation is an important method to reduce the seismic disaster. Butthe existing isolation methods of building structure are either high cost orcomplex structures that are not suitable for the low-rise building of therural areas in developing countries. This thesis presents a geocellreinforcing rubber-sand cushion can be used for low-rise buildingisolation, And search on its static and dynamic characteristics. Accordingto the characteristics from the experiments and use the finite elementsimulation we can analysis the isolation effect and influence factors thatcushion made on upper structures. At last, the vibration experiment in thisthesis proved the isolation effect of reinforcing rubber-sand cushion. The main research contents of this thesis are as follows:1. Geocell reinforcing can significantly improve the soil shearstrength rubber, reduce volume expansion or volume reduction, as well asimprove soil deformation properties of rubber. The effect of geocellreinforcing increases with rubber rubber particle content and decreaseswith vertical consolidation pressure.2、Dynamic shear modulus of the rubber-sand decreases with rubberparticle content, while the non-linearity of modulus curve increase withrubber particle content. The damping ratio of the rubber-sand increaseswith rubber particle content. Both the maximum dynamic shear modulusand damping ratio of the rubber-sand increase when Geocellreinforcement is applied. Vertical modulus of geocell reinforced rubbersand is also significantly improved.3、Numerical simulation indicates that the acceleration of upperstructure decreases with the thickness increasing of isolation layer, andthe ratio of decrease reduces with increasing content of rubber particle. The acceleration of upper structure declines linearly with the increases ofthe thickness of isolation layer. The isolation effect becomes moreobvious when rubber sand is reinforced by geocell when comparing to thecase without geocell. 4. The vibrating tests carried out on an artificial simple shake tableverified that the layer of geocell reinforcing rubber-sand exhibitssignificant isolation effect(When the thickness is200mm and ratio ofrubber sand is30%,the maximum damping coefficient is about55%),and the vibration amplitude in low-frequency ranges seems to be isolatedmore obviously.
